TOUCHED BY THE CONGO

OVERVIEW
CONCEPT
ABOUT
Touched by the Congo is a full branding package designed to bring awareness to the severe modern slavery and devastating working and living environments of the Congo.
The concept “Touched by the Congo” was inspired by the harsh truth that every rechargeable electronic or battery has some connection to the slavery of the people of the Congo and yet, this travesty is rarely talked about. Globally, people are taking part in a massive human rights, public health, and environmental catastrophe. The Congolese people are enslaved and work in toxic environments to harvest cobalt, which is used in all rechargeable batteries. People are losing their homes and suffering from health issues due to exposure because they don’t have proper equipment to perform their work. It is estimated that every single week a mine falls, collapsing, killing all the men, women, and children inside.

IDENTITY
Within the project, deliverables such as posters, social media posts, informational book, and pamphlets were created to support awareness of this issue. The finger print logo represents the Congolese people and the bold red symbolizes the bloodshed and violence faced by the Congolese people.

PRINT BOOKLET & PAMPHLET
The booklet combines the design elements with raw information on the topic. For photography, a red tone was added to photos to reinforce the concept of the Congo bloodshed. The finger print tracks were also a design element used to convey that the Congo is leaving its mark on electronics.
The Pamphlet was inspired by a shopping receipt, to convey the message that this issue is not receiving the attention it needs. The back of the pamphlet walks through exactly how everyday people are unknowingly taking part of this issue.

POSTERS & SIGNS
The moto “KNOW your part, OWN your part” was plastered on posters and signs to draw the attention of the viewer, helping them to understand how everyday people are taking part in this issue. QR codes were added, providing the viewer with a "next step".
